The TinEye Reverse Image Search extension for the Chrome browser is the add-on from the internet’s first image search engine – TinEye. It uses image identification technology in place of keywords, metadata or watermarks to search for your image. Using this extension, you can discover the origin of the image, its usage and also, its higher-resolution versions.
The extension, on installation, puts an option in the right-click menu of your Chrome browser. As you right-click on any image embedded in the web page, the context menu shows an option “Search Image on TinEye” which you can select to open a new tab. This tab takes you to tineye.com where the search results for your image are shown. As you search for an image with TinEye, it creates a unique and compact digital signature (or fingerprint) for the image, and compares this signature with every other image on TinEye’s index to retrieve the search matches. The results shown are not similar, but exact copies of your image, and includes the one that have been edited, cropped, or resized. TinEye is updating its database with millions of new images on a weekly basis, and will display better results every time you search for an image. In addition to this, you can set the extension for sorting order preference and to open searches in background, foreground or current tab. This allows you to customize your browser and this plug-in as per your liking.
This snap-in is a handy tool if you like to search for images quite often or want to trace the impact of the images posted by you. Also, it is a fun utility to figure out your own image’s influence on social networking websites. The TinEye Reverse Image Search extension for the Google Chrome browser is indeed a smart way of searching copies of your images in an effective and efficient manner. This addon is also available for Firefox browsers.
