The social network Facebook is collecting lots of data about your browsing habits, even if you are not a Facebook user. The plugin Facebook Disconnect is a handy extension for the Google Chrome browser to prevent your data tracking by Facebook servers, while allowing you to access Facebook itself. The snap-on has been designed to keep your personally identifiable information safe and secure from leaking as you surf the web at the same time as using Facebook in another tab.
As you log-in to your Facebook account in a browser tab, and continue surfing the millions of sites on the internet, the Facebook servers are notified as these sites are using Facebook Connect. Your browsing and search history with your name and other personal information are involuntarily sent to the servers and third-party apps on Facebook without your knowledge. This results in the leakage of personally identifiable information to third party sites. Facebook Disconnect permits you to curb this unintentional data flow.
After installation of the Facebook Disconnect add-on, all this information flow is turned off and the traffic is blocked from third-party sites to Facebook servers. However, it does not affect your Facebook usage in any way, apart from making it a much safer and secure process. Even if you are logged on Facebook in one tab, the web browsing being done by you in other tabs is not known to the servers on Facebook. This extension practically depersonalizes your browsing and searching on the internet with respect to the servers on Facebook.

This plugin does nothing Adblock Plus can’t do as well (and ABP does much more).
I really don’t mind the ads, they have to make money somehow (and I don’t want to be charged for using Facebook). But I do mind that they are collecting personal information about my browsing habits etc. so this plugin is a lifesaver!

Chrome users are freed from the Facebook botnet.
Now all you have to deal with is the Google botnet already supplied with the browser.
