Download Google Chrome

Before you can use the many great extensions and themes listed on this page, you obviously need to download the Google Chrome browser first. Due to it’s speed, security and simplicity, Google Chrome has become the third most popular browser worldwide, catching up with increased speed to the market leaders Internet Explorer and Chrome.

Check out the best features here:

Simplicity: Google Chrome was the first browser to simplify the user interface and cut everything back down to the major functionalities (a trend others like Microsoft are now mirroring). Do you need more features? Just install extensions.

Security: Google has implemented many features to protect users from malicious websites, for example with a malware and phishing detection mechanism.

Speed: Browsing the web as fast as possible is one of the most important factors for most users and Google Chrome is the fastest browser out there (as proven in many benchmarks).

The Chrome browser was developed by the search-engine company Google and is (just like Apple’s browser Safari) based on the WebKit engine. There is also an open-source project called Chromium that is based to a large extend on the Google Chrome browser. By releasing code to external developers, Google can benefit from the work of many voluntary contributors that work on improving the Chromium source code.

Users can distinguish between the two projects through the different logos. While they both use the same symbol, the Chromium logo is coloured blue while the Chrome logo adopts the Google colours red, green, yellow and blue.

Released: 2008

Operating systems: Linux, MAC, Windows

(note: some extensions require Windows)

Languages: 50

You can download the browser for free from the Google Chrome website.

Download Google Chrome BETA!

If you want to try out the newest features before everyone else, switch to the Chrome beta version. This will automatically update your Chrome browser with the latest developments before they are released in the stable version. Some of the functionalities may not have been perfectly developed so you can give feedback to Google on how you think Chrome could be improved.
